Cheyenne Jackson will no longer serve as a member of the Tony Awards nomination committee for the 2012-13 season, a spokesperson for the Tonys confirmed. The actor has had to recuse himself from nominating duties now that he will star in the new Broadway play The Performers this fall. Previously announced committee members Boyd Gaines (who will star in An Enemy of the People) and director Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) will also not serve on the board. No replacements have been named at this time.
Directed by Evan Cabnet and written by David West Read, The Performers follows two high school friends who reconnect at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas. The play begins its run October 23 at the Longacre Theatre, with opening night set for November 14. In addition to Jackson, The Performers will star Henry Winkley, Ari Graynor, Daniel Breaker and Jenni Barber.
Other members originally announced for this season's Tony nomination committee include Mary Louise Parker, John Leguizamo, Andre de Shields, Rick Elice, Adam Guettel, Moises Kauffman and Michael Greif.
